PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania – Monroe, Wisconsin-based cheesemaker, Roth®, proudly took home six medals at the 2018 American Cheese Society’s Competition in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last week.
First place in the Washed Rind Cheeses Open Category went to Roth® Pavino, a washed rind alpine-style cheese aged for 9+ months in the Roth cellars. Boasting a complex, yet balanced flavor of nutty, sweet milk accompanied by an earthy depth, Pavino is handcrafted exclusively for Whole Foods Market.
Roth GranQueso® took second place in the Hispanic & Portuguese Style Cheeses category, continuing Roth’s tradition of success with this American Original cheese hand-rubbed with cinnamon and paprika. The mix of deep, intricate flavors of candied pineapple and brown butter has made it an American Cheese Society winner year after year. GranQueso®, which is carefully cured for six to eight months, and has a distinctive bite and sweet finish with hints of citrus, spice and hazelnut. This win is the 15th consecutive award for this cheese in the category.
Roth Grand Cru® Original also took home second place in the Washed Rind Cheeses category. Grand Cru® Original is Roth’s signature cheese. They craft Grand Cru® in authentic copper vats with the finest Wisconsin milk sourced within 60 miles of their creamery, creating an original alpine-style cheese unmatched in America. Careful making and curing brings out light floral notes, nutty undertones, a hint of fruitiness and a mellow finish.
