RICHMOND, Virginia –Wisconsin-based cheesemaker, Emmi Roth, proudly took home five awards at the 2019 American Cheese Society Competition in Richmond, Virginia, last week.
The company received a First Place award for their Gorgonzola in the “Rindless Blue-Veined – Made from Cow’s Milk” category. This Gorgonzola is handcrafted by the cheesemakers at their new Seymour, Wisconsin, location. Earlier this year, Emmi Roth acquired the blue cheese plant in Seymour, Wisconsin, and added more than 50 new cheesemakers and crew to the Emmi Roth family.
Roth® GranQueso® took second place in the Hispanic & Portuguese Style Cheeses category, continuing Roth’s tradition of success with this American Original cheese hand-rubbed with cinnamon and paprika. The mix of deep, intricate flavors of candied pineapple and brown butter has made it an American Cheese Society winner year after year. This win is the 16th consecutive ACS award for this cheese in the category. GranQueso® is handcrafted at the company’s Monroe, Wisconsin, location.
The company also won third place awards for three other Roth® brand cheeses made at their Monroe, Wisconsin creamery, including:
FLAVORED CHEESES
International-Style with Flavor Added
Roth® 3 Chile Pepper Gouda

Open Category – American Made/International Style – Made from Cow’s Milk

“Our success comes from our dedicated team of cheesemakers and crew who work tirelessly to ensure we only make the best quality cheese,” said Tim Omer, President and Managing Director for Emmi Roth. “These awards mean a lot to all of us, our customers and people who enjoy our cheeses every day.”
Each year, the American Cheese Society (ACS) hosts the foremost educational conference and world-renowned cheese competition in North America. The Annual ACS Judging & Competition is held in conjunction with the ACS Conference, recognizing cheeses and cultured dairy products of the highest quality for their aesthetic and technical merits.
Judges evaluated more than 1,700 different cheese products in the American Cheese Society Judging & Competition this year. A full list of winners can be found online.
